If you’re thinking about getting a driveway paved or re-paved with asphalt, you need to know the dimensions of it to get an accurate quote. In this article, we will discuss the ways to get your driveway estimated.
First, it’s a lot easier to do this measuring if you have a rolling measuring tape instrument, like a Digiroller. This will make it much easier to get accurate measurements without a ton of frustration.
If you have a straight road, all you need to do is find the length and width, and multiply them together to get the square footage. Then you can go to your local asphalt paving contractors and get a quote.
It gets trickier with angled flares at the end of driveways or circular areas, like a cul-de-sac. If you have a circular area, use the formula for finding the area of a circle, A=3.14*r2, where r is the radius. Add this to the straight portion of the road and you have your total.
Flares are also tricky. You need to line up where the flare starts and measure the length and width, but divide it by 2 since it isn’t a full square. Add this to the total of the rest of the driveway or road.
Measuring for asphalt pavement seems tricky, but all you need is a good measuring instrument and some basic math. You can always rely on the contractors to do it for you, too!
