When you are experiencing an emergency situation with your air conditioning unit such as it won’t turn on or it is leaking, it is a good idea to know some of the common issues with them. A lot of times you’ll hear your unit buzzing like it is trying to turn on but it can’t.
This can be an easy fix. You are going to need screwdrivers, a drill, and some sort of pliers. Be sure not to lose any of the screws. Having an electrical meter is a good idea so you know your electrical is not the issue. Open up the disconnect box, first. Sometimes it is a breaker, other times it is not. Be sure to turn off any of the electricity flowing to the unit so you make sure you do not electrocute yourself. Once you are inside the electrical box, there might be another section of screws. Once you have exposed the panel, see if there are any broken or chewed-through wires. Sometimes mice chew through wires. There is a lot to know about air conditioning units.
