Roller shades are preferred by many homeowners because it gives them more control over the amount of sunlight that enters the room. Plenty of companies and services will perform a roller shades install for you, but if you are more of the do-it-yourself type, learning the process is simple.
All you will need is a drill, a screwdriver, steel measuring tape, and a pencil. The shades you order will provide the brackets and screws you need.
If your shades have an exposed headrail, you can choose whether you want to mount them on the top or on the side. If your shades have a cassette, however, they can only be mounted from the top.
You generally want to place your brackets 2 to 4 inches from each side of your window, but this will depend on the width of your shades. After you measure, use your pencil to mark your measurements to ensure they are aligned.
Align your brackets with the outside edge of your window frame, mark them, and measure them one more time for surety. Before drilling in the brackets, predrill the holes so the screws are easier to put in.
Once your brackets are in, your cassette and headrail should snap into place.
