Anytime you face a clog in your drain, it is inconvenient and unsightly. Before you call in the plumber, there are a few steps you can try yourself to clear the clogged drains. The easiest way to unclog a drain is to pour boiling water down the drain. You need to repeat the process until the natural flow is restored.
If you do not have standing water in your sink, light stoppage can be cleared effectively by applying baking soda and vinegar. After pouring the boiling water, pour baking soda and vinegar and cover with a drain plug for approximately 10 minutes before pouring boiling water down the drain again.
The third method involves using a plunger. Using a conical rubber plug, block off the dishwasher drain to prevent water from being pushed back up. Put a few inches of water into the sink to create suction, then plunge up and down several times until the clog dissolves and water begins to drain. Flush the drain to check for any uncleared clogs.
Finally, if the clog is close to the opening, you should use a drain snake. Use the handle on the drum of the coiled-up snake and twist it until you feel resistance. Keep twisting and the snake will either pull out the blockage or loosen it, so there is free flow again.
